Before & After Bookshelves
I recently moved into a old craftsman style home with built-in shelving, so I thought I’d share a little corner of my abode.
I love books – everything about them. Of course reading them, but also holding them, displaying them and decorating with them. There’s just something so cozy about books. I actually have a fear that electronic book readers will one day replace hard copies. Scary thought. With that being said, I’m a huge collector. So the move into my new (old) home is like a little dream come true.
I also love thrift shopping, so when I find something interesting or appealing, I’ll pick it up and add it to my bookshelves. Take a peek at some of the things I used and then give it a try.

I always seem to catch an organizing bug come January. Some might say I have an obsession with baskets. And they may be right. I can’t help myself – they make for great home décor accessories, while storing things around the house.
I’ve also come to find that baskets can be purchased for only a few pennies more than those unattractive plastic bins. Michael’s craft store almost always sells them at half-off and usually with the fabric inserts. You can also find great deals on quality baskets at TJ Maxx, ShopKo and even in the clearance section of Pier 1. So if you happen to catch the organization bug and you’re looking for storage options, toss the plastic and shop for baskets. I think you will be very happy with the natural touch they’ll add to your décor.
- A larger basket can hold blankets, towels … or just sit there and look pretty.
- A picnic basket doesn’t have to be just for food.
- Don’t they look cute together?
- Hide away “stuff” in these small, lined baskets.
