Behind the Scenes: Slow Cooker Super Bowl

Robin directs while Jenny photographs.

Story ideas tend to… evolve. Much so the case with this feature. Initially we simply needed a big screen TV, some appetizers and a couple of big guys for the shoot. But of course nothing is ever that simple when Robin and I put our heads together – not to mention Jenny Dagdagan, our photographer.

We wanted to do something different than the traditional spicy chicken wings and meatballs, so we dug up some crock pot recipes (as well as those shared by our lovely facebook fans) and found some great alternatives. In fact, we couldn’t keep our fingers out of the food throughout the shoot. All of the recipes really are that good.

We were very thankful to be able to use Ryan and Nichole Cowden’s beautiful home for the shoot; however, we had no idea beforehand that Nichole, an interior designer, would end being such a huge help with all of the prep. Nor did we anticipate using Ryan as one of our main models.  But that’s just how it works out. The unexpected events always seem to make it just that much more interesting.
