A peek behind the scenes: “Drinks through the Decades” photo shoot
From wardrobe and makeup to location and lighting, one would never guess the number of hours that go into each photo shoot for the magazine. After deciding on our models, Robin and I then have to scour the town in search of the perfect outfits and accessories – which can be quite grueling when we have our minds set on something particular. Lucky for us, local shops and salons are usually more than willing to help out. Typically though, we’re still running around town at the last minute pulling everything together.
It’s when we arrive on set that the fun begins. Once we’ve decided on the backdrops and props, the photographer usually takes over – well, sort of. Robin doesn’t miss a beat on set, but not without a little laughter – and that’s where I sneak in with my camera.
- Tragically un-photogenic Robin stands in for a model while lighting is being tested.
- Our photographer, Chad Bremerman, pops the top for our champagne cocktail shot.
- Our models, Carmela Solorzano and Vicky Koch, get a little goofy on set.
- Robin’s mom, Judi (who moonlighted as a stylist on this shoot for friend Vicky), analyzes her handiwork.
- Keoki’s owner, Buck Chan, made it all the more fun. Chan insists (and we concur) that Keoki’s has, of all things, amazing tap water. Strange yes, but after we tasted it, we agreed.
- Chad photographs, while Robin directs the shots.
